Kenosha, WI 5/22/07 – Captivate Kenosha Dance Company (CKDC) is a newly formed group of young people whose goals are to educate and inspire through enticing performances. All company dancers are ages 17 through 26 and are professionally trained in dance with a strong emphasis in ballet and jazz dance, or are studying intensely through the YMCA Dance Program. CKDC offers two positions within the company; first company dancers and apprentices. Youth apprentices are teenage Kenosha dancers primarily of CKDC’s related youth group, the YMCA’s New Beginnings: A Performing Dance Company (NB: PDC), who demonstrate excellent dedication in training and respect for this art form. Both the YMCA’s NB: PDC and CKDC remain under the direction of Gina Roberta Laurenzi of Kenosha. The company rehearses at the Downtown YMCA 720 59th Place after having received the space donated by the Kenosha YMCA. In Winter 2007, CKDC hosted their first benefit to raise awareness about the arts in Kenosha for over 280 audience members.
At this time, the CKDC dancers are working with 716: Fine Art on their intimate concert to be performed within the gallery’s walls. The event will feature CKDC dancers in an up close and personal performance. The audience will be surrounding the artists as they move to a variety of recorded artists and live music by talented local musicians. “Unframed” will open on Thursday, May 31st beginning at 8pm and run on the evenings of Friday, June 1st and Saturday, June 2nd for a total of three performances. Doors open at 7:30 pm. More information and tickets are available through 716fineart.org.
